Fr Jason – FACEBOOK | EMAIL | TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Father Jason & Myra, though from West Virginia, have lived in Mathews County since late 2005 and they have been married since 2000. Together they have three grown children – one girl, and two boys.

Fr Jason has served in both vocational and bi-vocational youth/associate pastor positions in NC, AZ, and VA with Myra being a vital part of each ministry while he served in the Assemblies of God USA. Additionally as a volunteer they have had the opportunity to serve in lead roles at a church plant in Virginia’s capital, as well as be part of the core team in a church revitalization project in the 757.

From 2012 to 2018 Jason was a professed third-order Franciscan in the Company of Jesus. In April of 2017 he was ordained a deacon and then in June of 2018 he was ordained a priest by The Most Revd Thomas E. Gordon. Jason is a canonical resident of the Diocese of the Restoration in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches. He has studied at Global University’s Berean School of the Bible, and Nations University.

Though Fr Jason’s day job finds him traveling all over the Middle Peninsula as a Pest Control Technician and Myra as a CNA in long-term care, they both faithfully serves this Mission. Refuge, planted in 2018, is the culmination of a church planting vision that the Hess’ have carried in their hearts since 2007, despite the fact that for years they didn’t know what the work would end up looking like.

Fr Jason is a member of the Charismatic Fraternity of Sacred Ministers, and the Wesleyan-Anglican Society. Most recently he, with Myra’s assistance, served as the 2020 Chair for No Walls, an effort to bring Mathews County churches together to impact the local community by providing backpacks and school supplies for k-12 students in the area.

To hear a little bit of the Hess’ story, specifically The Storm their marriage/family went through in 2013, you can listen to a 2021 interview they did for Ps Josh Evan’s I’m F*cked Up podcast – Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Disclaimer: Explicit Language.
